Francis J. Quinn, Military Cross and other medals (stolen from Burlington family home)

My grandfather paid a heavy price for his service during World War One. Twice he was buried by bomb blasts, suffering hearing damage as well as injury to his internal organs which probably shortened his life. I briefly knew him (he died when I was around six) and as a way of honouring his memory I have made it a priority to try to regain possession of his medals especially the Military Cross which can not be replaced and which he was given by the King.

According to the London Gazette, he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and action. He organized a bombing party which cleared 300 yards of trench, capturing over 100 prisoners and getting in touch with the battalion on his right. Later, during an enemy attack he charged with his party and greatly assisted in repulsing the enemy.

I have contacted various groups of military collectors to alert them to the fact these medals were unfortunately removed from my family’s possession, probably by a care giver looking after my ailing parents. Because The Military Cross has my grandfather’s name imprinted on the back of it, I hope that one day we can recover it.

Please keep your eyes and ears open. We would be prepared to pay fair market value for the recovery of these medals.

Thank-you, Philip Quinn
